What Materials are Used
We want your Nook to be an extension of your home and we take great pride in how we build them. We only use high quality materials and industry standard building systems when building your Nook. From insulation, to weatherproofing to windows to interior finishes…. your Nook is built to last.
Size of the NOOK
Our Standard Nook measures 8’7” x 12’7” on the exterior. which equates to approximately 8” x 12” on the interior.
The Standard Build
A NOOK can be customized to suit your style preferences. However , as a starting point, here is what a Standard NOOK build comes with:
Foundation: Pressure treated 4”x 4” runners on a framed gravel base .
Floor System: Pressure treated 2’ x 6” joists, 2” Rigid foam sub-floor insulation, 3/4” plywood sub floor
2” x 4” wall construction
2” x 6” roof joist construction (Lean-to-Roof)
1/2” plywood wall sheathing
Tyvek house wrap on walls
Rainscreen wall system
1/2” Plywood roof sheathing
Roofing felt underlayment.
Metal roof flashings
Maintenance free Metal Roof
R-15 Pink Batt Insulation to walls, R-30 to ceiling
Vapour barrier
Windows - Thermal double-paned, vinyl casement
Doors- Choice of vinyl sliding door or single lite french doors.
Interior Walls- Finished drywall.
Flooring- Vinyl plank flooring (waterproof!)
Interior Trim- window sills, 4” flat stock baseboards, 3” flat stock door and window casings.
Paint- all surfaces painted. Ceiling, walls, baseboards, casings.
Electrical- underground conduit will run from the house to the studio connected to a 30Amp breaker.(*conditions apply).
Electrical- Interior LED 4” potlights (4), Wall plugs(3), 2000W baseboard heater (1)
Electrical permit will be provided by licenced Electrician.
Siding- Many options to suit your surroundings and existing house.
Base model- Hardie Plank Exterior Cementitious SidingWood trim around doors, windows and fascia board
Installation
A standard NOOK, with 4 × 4 treated runners as a foundation and a finished drywall interior takes approximately 3 weeks to complete. This timeline is weather dependant.
